Proteomics and Protein Chemistry

In proteomics and protein chemistry EC/MS is used for specific protein/peptide cleavage, reduction of disulfide bridges for assignment of disulfide bonds in biopharmaceuticals, and suppression of sodium/potassium clusters in proteins/peptides also referred to as desalting. The EC/MS method is fast, clean and without the need of any enzymes. Furthermore no harsh reducing agents are required causing ion suppression in electrospray ionization (ESI). The resulting products are analyzed either directly by infusion EC/MS or by on-line EC/LC/MS.
