Carbohydrates in food

  • Reproducible, carbonate free analysis
  • Down to 10 nmole/L detection limit
  • Flexcell with exchangeable gold electrode

Carbohydrates not only provide the most easily accessible energy source for our body, they also play an important role in many physiological processes. They are involved in intercellular recognition, infection processes, and certain types of cancer. Carbohydrates analysis is of interest to the food industry and also many fields in life sciences.

The ALEXYS Carbohydrates Analyzer for mono, di- and simple polysaccharides is dedicated to the analysis of food and beverages, and suitable for analysis of functional groups in glycoproteins.

System configuration

For the analysis of carbohydrates we selected the Flexcell electrochemical cell. This cell has an exchangeable working electrode which is particularly useful in pulsed electrochemical detection. The electrode material tends to vanish over the years, in the process of pulsed amperometric detection. Exchanging an electrode disc only takes a few minutes. The HyREF is maintenance free even at pH 13! The ALEXYS Carbohydrates Analyzer (180.0052A) comprises the following parts:

  • AS 110 autosampler, cool
  • LC 110S HPLC pump
  • OR 110 organiser
  • Clarity data acquisition software
  • DECADE II electrochemical detector
  • Flexcell with Au WE, HyREF
  • HPLC column with pre-column
  • ALEXYS LC connection kit
  • Polyethylene bottle kit

Carbohydrates Analyzer 180.0054A has in addition to the above:

  • 1 additional LC 110S pump for HPLC gradients
  • OR 110 'dual channel' option (extra pulse damper)
