GABA and Glutamate

Chromatogram Glutamate and Gaba

Analysis of microdialysate fro Basal Lateral Amygdala. One injection, two chromatograms.

ALEXYS GABA and Glutamate Analyzer

  • GABA and Glutamate, one injection 2 chromatograms
  • Fully automated OPA derivatisation
  • Column switch: best resolution, and no late eluting system peaks

The GABA and Glutamate Analyzer uses column switching to resolve Glu from the front peaks and to reduce the retention time of GABA. It has a fully automated OPA derivatisation procedure using an AS 110 user program. Late eluting peaks from the OPA reagent that traditionally hamper routine analysis are conveniently removed by this column switch setup. GABA/Glu analyzer can be down-scaled to a sample volume < 10 µL.

Note: the dual channel GABA/Glu analyzer is obsolete since the introduction of the new Neurotransmitter Analyzer.

System configuration

For the analysis of GABA and Glutamate we selected the VT03 electrochemical cell. This cell not only has an excellent reproducibility but also the best possible detection sensitivity. We routinely inject 5-20 µL, therefore we selected a micro version of our AS 110 autosampler. We use a 2 mm ID column at 250 µL/min as a standard.

The ALEXYS system comprises the following parts:

  • AS 110 autosampler, cool, micro
  • LC 110S HPLC pump
  • OR 110 organiser rack
  • Clarity data acquisition software
  • DECADE II electrochemical detector, DCC (dual channel)
  • VT cell with 2mm GC WE, salt bridgeGABA and Glu Analyzer
