The ALEXYS product line comprises a number of different configurations that are tailored to meet the requirements of an application. An ALEXYS with an electric valve in stead of an autosampler can be used for process monitoring with continuously sampling. An example is the online monitoring of neurotransmitters using a microdialysis setup.
For Clinical analysis of catecholamines sample volume is usually between 20 - 100 uL, therefore an ALEXYS with DECADE II SDC and standard bore HPLC has been the configured. The system is quite similar to the Azithromycin or Kanamycin analyzer, except for the DECADE II (in stead of the SDC). The Azithromycin analyzer uses a secondary flow cell (DCC option) and the Kanamycin requires PAD.
In Neuroscience the available sample volume is often limited to 20 uL or less. Therefore ALEXYS systems have been developed based on micro HPLC (1 mm columns). To get the most out of a small sample a dual channel setup has been chosen using a dual loop valve. This enables different analyses with one injection sequence, thus limiting the spill of sample that is normal in an injection sequence.
This system is similar to the carbohydrates and the aminoglycosides analyzer, except these are standard size HPLC systems. For carbohydrates both pumps are used in a binary gradient, the aminoglycosides use a second pump for post column addition of sodium hydroxide.
